About Kadesh Barnea
Kadesh Barnea is a boutique winery on the edge of Israel and Egypt. When driving to Kadesh Barnea, the Egyptian border is only a few feets away! Kadesh Barnea is located on the most Western area of the Negev and about 30 miles South of the Rafah Border crossing in Gaza and was established in 2000 by Nira and Alon Zadock on the family’s agricultural plot on the moshav. Today the winery produces 50,000 bottles annually and hopes to grow to 100,000 bottles.
Kadesh Barnea Winery produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Mourvèdre, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. They have three series – Kadesh Barnea, Midbar and Single Vineyard. The grapes are grown in a very dry and hot climate but because of drip irrigation and modern technology, the grapes are of high quality and consist of a rich flavor.
The winemaker is the oldest son of the family, Yogev. The name Yogev actually means Farmer in Hebrew so his name suits his profession quite well. Yogev studied viticulture in Florence, Italy.
This winery is a favorite among my peers and colleagues in Israel because the quality is superb and the price point is fantastic for the quality. Each bottle of wine goes through a meticulous process so that the family is proud to put their name behind their product.
